Punk Goes Pop Volume 5

Punk’s not dead with Punk Goes Pop 5 Album Release!!!

Oh yeah give me five with the coming of Punk goes pop volume 5. In my own opnion this is are awesome songs to watch out for…but not overwhelming like Punk goes pop volume 4.

Punk Goes Pop Volume 5 Songs Review
We'll start with the opening track, a cover of Grenade by Bruno Mars, done none other than the wonderful Memphis May Fire. I absolutely love the vocals in this track. The screaming is just absolutely amazing. It's not too heavy, so it can be enjoyed by people who enjoy other music genres as well. I've even sent the cover to a Bruno Mars obsessed chick that I know, and she was in love with it. This track definitely gets 4/5 chipotle burritos. (I'm going on a food scale, I'm so hungry. Deal with it.)

The next track comes along which is a cover of Carly Rae Jepsen's Call Me Maybe, done by Upon This Dawning. I'm going to be completely honest; the original annoys me so much. I didn't think I'd like the cover, and I was somewhat correct. I really love the screaming in this cover, and also the vocals. I just don't like the song. I think I'll be able to stand this version. This is great by the way. I've never heard of Upon This Dawning until now, so I'll definitely check it out. I love the heavy background music paired with the sort of pop-punk vocals. This gets a 3/5 on my Chipotle scale. I just know that I'm going to have Call Me Maybe stuck in my head again. Which kinda sucks because I hate the song, but this version makes up for everything the original lacks.

Track three is Mayday Parade's cover of Gotye's Somebody That I Used To Know featuring vocals from the WONDERFUL Vic Fuentes of Pierce The Veil who I had the chance to meet at this year's Warped Tour after the AP signing. (Such a wonderful man. A wonderful, wonderful man.) I love Mayday Parade and Pierce The Veil, as well as the orginal song. Vic does Kimbra's part so wonderfully. And Mayday as always, did an amazing cover which made me like it more than the original. This is one song I'll be jamming to all year, just like I did with Tonight Alive's Little Lion Man cover from the last Punk Goes album. 5/5 on the Chipotle scale. Well done, Mayday Parade.

The next song is a cover of The Wanted's Glad You Came by WE CAME AS ROMANS. I love the background screaming, as well as the vocals. For me, it definately tops the original. Not my favorite song ever, but definately a great one and a great song choice for this album. The music is so wonderful and it's not as clubby (if you know what I'm getting at) as the original. It's a great cover and I'd love to hear it played at live shows in the future even though that probably won't happen, sadly. 4/5.

"Some nights, I stay up cashing in my bad luck..." Don't even doubt yourself and say that you don't know this song. The 5th track on the album is a cover of Some Nights by Fun. done by Like Moths To Flames. I've never heard of them before, but this cover is good. It doesn't live up to the original though. I'm a fan of Fun. and I like this cover but it really doesn't do it for me. 3/5. I will be checking out this band's other music though. It's great.

Everyone, now here we have a cover of legend Michael Jackson's song Billie Jean by Breathe Carolina. I love BC, don't get me wrong. But this auto tune is seriously annoying me. I love the song. And the cover is alright, I guess. BC could of done a lot better. But it's not going to stop me from enjoying Breathe Carolina. 2/5.

FOREVER THE SICKEST KIDS. They're covering We Found Love by Rihanna. This is a wonderful moment. So so so wonderful. The music makes me want to get up and dance. But if I even attempted, it’d be a disgrace to the song. I couldn't stand the original, but I've already listened to this cover too many times. It's amazing. 5/5 for Forever The Sickest Kids! Definitely listen to Forever The Sickest Kids if you don't already.

"Ugh. A Justin Bieber cover..... This won't be good." My inital reaction. I really dislike him, sorry. Issues did a cover of Boyfriend. And I LOVE the screaming. (I'm going to sit around screaming "SWAGGIEEEEE" like they do in the song.) The heavy music just makes me wish I was at a show. I've heard of Issues before, I've just never listened to them. I'll definitely be listening to more. So, swaggie. 4.5/5.

GIRLS JUST WANNA HAVE FUUUUN. The Maine did a cover of Cyndi Lauper's hit song. Everyone knows it. Everyone loves it. This cover on the other hand, I do not. I love The Maine so much, but this cover just doesn't do it for me. On the bright side, it's super catchy. So it's going to be in my head whether I like it or not, just like Call Me Maybe. I'll stick to The Maine's other music. 2/5.

Maroon 5 covers are the best. Especially when they're heavy. This next cover is GREAT. Its kind of awesome it. This is a cover of Payphone done by Crown the Empire. It's always a good thing when you can automatically understand what they're screaming. If I didn't know the song already, I would have understood the lyrics as well, which is great. 4/5.

The next song is a cover of Paradise by Coldplay by Craig Owens of Chiodos and Destroy Rebuild Until God Shows. Words cannot describe how much I love this cover, so I'm just going to leave it at 4.5/5.

I absolutely DESPISE the song Mercy by Kanye West. But The Word Alive covered it so well. I am in absolute LOVE with this cover. The screaming is amazing. The lyrics suck, but the heavyness of the song makes up for it. I wish more people (especially people I go to school with) would give this a chance. Because it's koala tea. 4/5.

The closer of "Punk Goes Pop 5" is a cover of Ass Back Home by Gym Class Heroes, done by Secrets. Not a real fan of the original. This cover really makes the song enjoyable for me. The screaming mixed with the clean vocals are great. I've never heard of Secrets, but I just listened to their song 40 Below, and I'm in love. Got to make it to one of their shows soon. 4/5.
